Maverick City Music Influences Secular Pop Artist

If you’ve been listening to the Countdown each week, you’ll know that Maverick City Music has been climbing the chart with their powerful song called “Promises.” We know this song has meant so much to a lot of you around the world, but did you know it’s also influencing artists in other music genres too?

In a recent interview, the 3-time GRAMMY winning pop artist Shawn Mendes shared about growing up not knowing God, but he had an emotional experience while watching Maverick City Music’s “Promises.”

He said, “I grew up more or less atheist, and now I’m becoming much more spiritual and really being sure there’s a God… Music was the thing that did that for me. Watching Maverick City choir singing about God, singing about Jesus. I’m sitting there watching this Youtube video and this thing about Jesus and I just start crying — crying my eyes out. And I’m like — you know when you’re crying and it’s like something leaving me? This is like that type of cry. And I’m like how is something that I’ve grown up my whole life to believe is fanatic and not science and not the truth feel like home because of this song?”

It’s absolutely incredible to celebrate the gospel reaching into the world with Maverick City Music. You can watch the full interview with Shawn Mendes here.
